A Kosher Mezuzah Parchment Scroll (Klaf) is an important religious-cermonial item. Written by a professional Israeli scribe (Sofer), it is placed inside a Mezuzah case and should be included together with each mezuzah purchase. No matter how beautiful a case, it is only a safe receptacle for a scroll.
A scroll is required on the doorpost of every Jewish home to fulfill the Biblical commandment in Deuteronomy. It contains the core expression of Jewish faith, the Shema.
All of our scrolls meet the requirments of Kashrut. They are written by an experienced professional scribe on unbleached animal parchment inscribed in black ink with a special quill pen with the proper number of words and letters on each line. Each scroll is checked twice for correctness by computers at a special Institute in Jerusalem.
Since each scroll is hand-inscribed, it is unique. No two are exactly the sames, even from the same scribe. Copa Judaica offers three choices.
For most of the community who appreciate the special talents of our professional scribes but prefer a smaller 7cm (2.5 inch) mezuzah case, we recommend our standard 003K scrolls. They have approximately 40% more surface space for embellishments and artistry than our basic scrolls
For the most observant members of the community who prefer a larger scroll, we recommend Scroll 004K. It is 10 cm in height and therefore has much more space for the Sofer to express the beauty and artistry inherent in the Hebrew script. Of course, it requires one of our many beautiful 10 cm (4 inch) Mezuzah cases.
